The research from NBC News and SurveyMonkey found that Gen Z men, who backed President Donald Trump in 2024, rated having children as their top marker for personal success. Gen Z women who voted for Kamala Harris said it is one of their bottom goals.
However, out of a scale of one to 13, women who voted for Trump listed having children at 6 for their personal success, and men who voted for Harris had it listed at 10.
Responding to this on Fox News Channel's "The Will Cain Show," Marc Morano of Climate Depot said that one reason young liberals are not having children is because they've been "indoctrinated to believe that children destroy the earth" with their emissions. Morano pointed to a few news outlets in particular.
“NPR says the best way to protect kids is by not having them. You have them calling for carbon tax on kids. You have the Sunshine Movement warning about young people and suicide because of ecological catastrophe and climate change. You have the New York Times profiling the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement,” lists Morano in a clip of the show posted on X.
In 2022, The New York Times published an article that explains the message of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, which was founded by Les Knight. He believes that human overpopulation contributes to the climate crisis and that it will be better for the earth if humans go extinct. They insist that their goal be accomplished voluntarily, refraining from reproduction, and not through means of mass murder, forced birth control, or suicide.
“They're taught that, without people, Earth would be some kind of paradise, and they want to get Earth back to that state at the expense of their own lives or their children's lives,” states Morano.
Morano later in the show urged people to have children.
“My wife and I have four kids. So, we are doing our part as best as possible. The rate might slightly drop, but the conservatives and people optimistic about the future are having more and more kids. Having kids is the most optimistic thing you can do in this society,” says Morano.
