A Chinese immigrant now living in Loudoun County, Virginia, Xi knows what a Communist Party takeover looks like. She saw it first-hand as a child when Maoists murdered millions, including her own family and neighbors. Then, in disbelief, she recognized similar patterns, programs, and phrases as an adult in the Washington suburbs of liberal Northern Virginia.
Thanks to Fox News and social media, Xi’s 60-second appearance at the Loudoun County School board went viral in the summer of 2021.
"I’ve been very alarmed by what’s going on in our schools," Van Fleet said two years ago, referring to the "Biased Reporting System" that allowed students to snitch on each other. That raised red flags for the Chinese immigrant who witnessed Communists punish and shame others for expressing beliefs not allowed by the State.
"You are now teaching [and] training our children to be social justice warriors, and to loathe our country and our history," said Xi, whose son had graduated from a Loudoun County high school in 2015.
Two years after that one-minute appearance, Van Fleet has emerged as an invaluable source for many on the Right. The emergence of Critical Race Theory and its Marxist roots caught many by surprise but the grandmotherly Van Fleet was ready for them, because she never forgot how the Communists manipulated the population for power.
The radicals in Mao’s revolution “destroyed the statues, they changed their institutional names, and they also used identity politics to polarize the whole population,” Xi Van Fleet told "American Family Radio." “They also weaponized the youth. This is history repeating.”
That is one reason why President Joe Biden’s meeting with Xi Jinping last week disturbed her greatly.
From a U.S. perspective, the highlight from a meeting that was largely symbolic was China’s agreement to curtail shipments of chemicals used to make fentanyl. The lab-produced opioid is largely made in Mexico with chemicals from China, The Associated press reported.
“You think you’re going to strike a deal with Communists and you will always be cheated," she said. "That’s happened again and again and again, and I don’t think this will be any different."
Van Fleet, born into communism in China, told show host Jenna Ellis she received much more indoctrination than education. Though a child in the 1960s, Xi Van Fleet has clear memories of times of government dominance in all aspects of life. An estimated 20 million died under Chairman Mao's "Great Leap Forward" in the late 1950s, and then came the "Cultural Revolution" which began in 1966.
Communists using race instead of wealth
Chairman Mao made it his mission to destroy Chinese civilization to tighten his grip on power, Xi said.
“That was Mao’s version of Cancel Culture. He destroyed old customs, old culture and old habits. They got rid of our past, our heritage, so that we didn’t know the past, and the one thing we knew was Maoism. Mao wanted to replace the Chinese civilization with his radical version Marxism,” Xi Van Fleet said.
She said her vivid memories were replayed before her eyes in America’s summer of social unrest in 2020. That prompted Xi, admittedly quiet and shy, to become politically involved when she saw Marxists use race and racism to divide the population. At the Loudoun school board meeting, she warned race was being used as a political weapon like class and wealthy had been used in her native China.
In fact, Critical Race Theory and its claim of inequality due to white racism can be traced to Critical Theory and its claim the poor are victims of the rich who keep them poor to maintain power.
Gaining confidence from her school board appearance, Xi quit her job and devoted herself to speaking out and to using social media to reach a bigger audience. A new book she authored, "Mao's America, a Survivor's Warning," was released in October.
“I hope people will read and will understand what we’re dealing with,” she said of her book. “We are dealing with a communist takeover of our country. We have to fight back. What we're fighting now is we have to replace the Marxist worldview, all those indoctrinated youth, and replace it with the biblical worldview.”
This is necessary, Xi said, because “we have paid no attention.”
Despite the power and influence of the Communists, Xi said she is encouraged by parents who are "waking up" and belatedly realizing what is at stake.
"They see that they are fighting now for their own kids," she said.
