Rededicate 250 makes one thing clear: America is Christian nation

Rededicate 250 makes one thing clear: America is Christian nation

AFN reports that except for the intervention of an American Family Radio (AFR) host, the event might have had a completely different tone.

Thousands gathered on the National Mall last Sunday, called to prayer there by President Donald Trump so he could rededicate America as a Christian nation. The president played a video of himself reading Second Chronicles 7:14.

"If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land," read Trump.

Rios, Sandy Rios

AFA’s Sandy Rios, host of “Sandy Rios 24/7,” had a hand in planning the event. It was originally going to be an interfaith event, including Imams and leaders of other faiths. She told “Today's Issues” on AFR that grieved her heart.

“I asked for a private meeting, and I spent a lot of time praying and just writing out why that would not work, why that was wrong. We are celebrating America's birthday in history,” Rios says.

Her prayers were answered and only Christian and Jewish clergy were invited, reflecting the true history of America.

“When President Trump was reading that passage from Second Chronicles. It was that whole chapter. Most of it gets into, ‘if you follow foreign gods, I will not bless you,’ and President Trump read that with his own lips,” Rios says.

As for those against the notion that the U.S. was founded on Judeo-Christian values, AFN reported previously that Dr. Robert Jeffress defended the event from a Democrat congressman in California, who claimed the Founding Fathers would be against calling this country a Christian nation.

Jeffress responded back with historical evidence, for one, citing a study that revealed the founders quoted the Bible more than any other source in their many documents.

Eric Metaxas is the author of “Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World.” He told AFR's Jenna Ellis that in the 250th year of this nation, Americans have the obligation to relearn the story of this country.

“This was God's idea in history, to create a people who would look to Him as the sovereign, not to King George III, not to any other to the state, but would look directly to the Lord and be able to govern themselves,” says Metaxas. “The men who did this were godly Christians. They were not just sort of Christians. They were dramatically godly Christians who knew that what they were doing was the Lord's will.”

Metaxas was one of the speakers at Rededicate 250. Government speakers include House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. One of the prominent faith leaders was Reverend Franklin Graham, the grandson of famous evangelist Billy Graham.
